Several witnesses took the stand in a Virginia case against a Texas businessman who has been convicted of life insurance fraud. Adley Abdulwahab, a principal owner of A & O Investment Companies, has been found guilty of wire fraud, securities fraud, money laundering, and conspiracy for his role. Abdulwahab convinced investors to purchase life insurance policies from elderly individuals so that the investors could cash in on the policies once the original owner died. This practice is not illegal, but the way Abdulwahab and his associates handled the investments resulted in defrauding investors.

As the nights draw in, Towergate Insurance has offered homeowners a range of tips to help deter burglars taking advantage of the prolonged darkness from breaking into their homes.
Burglaries typically increase during this time of year, when clocks go back and nights become darker.
Jonathan Walker, CEO of Towergate Insurance broking division, explained that darker nights make it easier to spot which homes are unoccupied.
The insurer advises homeowners to either leave lights on or employ a timer so that the lack of lights do not betray a homes emptiness.
In addition, Towergate suggests locking doors and drawing curtains at night, as well as keeping valuables out of sight and away from doors and windows.

I find it somewhat amusing and somewhat frustrating that insurers are still trying to solve their business problems with new technologies using antiquated methods. It is analogous to trying to use a 1950’s football strategy of just giving it to the running back and banging it up field. They seem to assume that because the players have newer uniforms and better equipment, the old playbook will still work.
