As the nights draw in, Towergate Insurance has offered homeowners a range of tips to help deter burglars taking advantage of the prolonged darkness from breaking into their homes.

Burglaries typically increase during this time of year, when clocks go back and nights become darker.

Jonathan Walker, CEO of Towergate Insurance broking division, explained that darker nights make it easier to spot which homes are unoccupied.

The insurer advises homeowners to either leave lights on or employ a timer so that the lack of lights do not betray a homes emptiness.

In addition, Towergate suggests locking doors and drawing curtains at night, as well as keeping valuables out of sight and away from doors and windows.

Last but not least, the firm advocates the use of good quality locks and a burglar alarm, if one is installed.

 

Aviva launches family MultiCar policy

Aviva has launched MultiCar, a motor policy aimed at families with a collection of drivers and vehicles.

Husbands, wives, common-law partners and any relative living under the same roof can insure up to five cars or vans per household.

Students who live away from home during term time qualify too, and Aviva MultiCar will also cover a small business or partnership, where all vehicles are registered at the same business address.

Main policy features include:

1. Discounts for each additional car or van added.

2. A single renewal date and one set of policy documentation.

Michigan legislators have introduced another bill aimed at modifying the state’s no-fault auto insurance system that they claim would “preserve the integrity” of that system while offering consumers greater choice.

The proposed legislation could potentially relieve coverage providers of the obligation to provide unlimited medical coverage by allowing motorists to choose from one of four levels of personal injury protection (PIP).

Currently, Michigan is the only state that requires insurers to cover up to a lifetime of medical and rehabilitative costs for vehicle accident victims who suffer catastrophic injuries.
